The two girls hit by lightning while camping near Big Flat are improving, officials say.
The girls, aged 8 and 16, from Payson and Springville, were at a family reunion. They had left in an ATV and got off the vehicle to walk around when they were struck.
Their dog ran back to camp to get help.
The family released the following statement:
BEAVER COUNTY, Utah (ABC4 Utah) – Two girls were hospitalized Friday after they were struck by lightning.
The girls, ages 8 and 16, were hospitalized in critical and stable condition.
Beaver County Sheriff’s Office says the girls were camping with family near Big Flat in the Beaver Mountains.
They had been riding an ATV and got off to look around with a family dog. Deputies say the girls were hit as they were walking back to the ATV.
The dog returned to camp and alerted the family. The family rushed to the site to find the girls on the ground unconscious.
The two girls are now at Primary Children’s Hospital receiving treatment.
