Woman reported missing out Cache County found dead, suspect arrested

Merrilee Cox-Lafferty last seen Aug. 18

UPDATE: Police in Logan have confirmed that Merrilee Cox-Lafferty was found deceased in Cache County. Her death is being ruled a homicide and a suspect has been arrested. 

According to the press release, after several weeks of investigation, social media posts, interviews, canvassing areas and other efforts, Logan City Police detectives determined this case was a homicide.

Cox-Lafferty's body was found up Blacksmith Fork Canyon about eight miles off the road in a shallow grave. 

Police knew who they were looking for and followed Robert Willis,41, of Hyrum, Utah into the parking lot of a local store and was able to take him into custody.  

He was booked into the Cache County Jail on charges of aggravated murder, obstructing justice, possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal mischief.

The investigation is on-going and additional details will be provided as they become available. 


CACHE COUNTY (News4Utah) – Cache County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help finding a missing woman.

Merrilee Cox-Lafferty, 37, was last seen Saturday, August 18 in Cache County.

According to her family, Merrilee has severe epilepsy accompanied by memory loss and mobility issues.

She left in her car, a tan/gold 1999 Toyota Camry with California license plate #7UAT395.
