TOOELE, Utah (News4Utah) – Fire crews from North Tooele fire, Salt Lake City fire, and Unified Fire responded to a grass fire in the hills above Lake Point near the Magna-Tooele border.
The fire forced the evacuation of the Great Salt Lake Park and Marina and temporarily shut down I-80 between SR-36 to SR-202 Saturday evening. As of Saturday night, there 800 acres burned and the fire was 50 percent contained.
Monday SR-201 was closed between SR-202 and I-80 as crews continued to fight the flames.
Tuesday morning Tooele County residents were asked to use access I-80 from SR 36 if they were trying to reach Salt Lake.
By Tuesday afternoon, the westbound lanes of SR 201 were opened, but eastbound lanes remained closed. The Utah Department of Transportation says eastbound lanes will remain closed through Wednesday.
