Man shot and killed during altercation in downtown Salt Lake City identified

UPDATE: Police have identified the victim in the shooting as 25-year-old David Lawrence Burwell.

Police are asking for the public's help in locating a man wanted for questioning in a fatal shooting Saturday morning in Salt Lake City. 

According to Salt Lake City Police, they are trying to find Thalwallkelah Lamar Washington, who goes by the name of Lamar. He drives a black 2007 Mercedes Benz with California license plate 7XCP832. 

Detectives have also received information there might be cell phone video of this incident taken by uninvolved parties and are asking those individuals, anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or anyone knows the whereabouts of Washington to please contact Salt Lake Police at 801-799-3000. 

There has been a GoFundMe set up to help the family of Burwell cover funeral costs. 



SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (News4Utah) - One man is dead and police are looking for suspects after a fight turned into a deadly shooting in Salt Lake City early Saturday morning. 

Lt. Justin Hudson said it happened 12:39 a.m. near 320 South State when two groups of individuals got into an argument inside a local bar. The fight then spilled out into a parking structure when shots were fired.

Hudson said one person was struck by one of the bullets and died on scene.

There are witnesses who are cooperating with police. Few details have been released. It is not known if the two groups knew each other prior to the altercation.

Police are looking at several leads in identifying suspects but as of Sunday morning, no one has been taken into custody. 

An update will be provided once more information becomes available. The name of the victim has not been released pending notification of family.
