The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced Thursday that two temples will be closed for extensive renovations.
The Oakland California Temple will close Feb. 2018. The Washington D.C. Temple is expected to close the following month.
"After decades of service, the mechanical systems of both temples will be upgraded and their finishes and furnishings will be refreshed," a press release from the Church said.
Renovations are expected to be completed in 2019 in Oakland and 2020 in D.C.
A public open house and rededication will provided as renovations are complete.
