Victim hit by car in Cottonwood Heights was lying in the road, witnesses say

COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah (News4Utah) – The victim of a fatal hit and run has been identified by Cottonwood Heights Police.

According to Cottonwood PD, 36-year-old Nathan Brown was seen jumping into traffic at the 2000 East block of Fort Union Boulevard around 7:00 p.m. Monday. Witnesses also say Brown was lying down in the roadway at the location and vehicles were attempting to avoid him.

Police confirm to News4Utah that someone driving a dark colored SUV hit Brown and left the scene. While police were on scene investigating the incident, the driver of that SUV called 911 to report that they were involved in the matter. 

The driver has been cooperative with police and turned over their vehicle for investigation.

Unified Fire Authority and Cottonwood Heights Police responded to the scene Monday night and performed life saving measures. They were unsuccessful and Brown succumbed to his injuries. 

This investigation is ongoing and all evidence from this case will be provided to the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office for consideration of charges. 

Cottonwood Heights PD are not releasing the name of the driver at this time.
