Utah woman finds her passion at age 86

SANDY, Utah (News4Utah) - Thanks to a local community of senior citizens, an 86 year-old woman has finally discovered her passion.

Like many of her elderly friends, Kay Adair has had a lot of life experience.  But it was not until Adair found the Sandy City Senior Center that she uncovered a talent she never knew she had.

"I hadn't started painting until I came here," Adair said.

After taking a free painting class for senior citizens, Adair realized how much she loved to express herself through watercolor.  It also quickly become clear that she had a knack for it.  Now, painting Utah's scenery is how Adair spends every Monday.

Visual arts are one of dozens of courses/activities available at the Sandy City Senior Center.  Each month, the program rolls out a new calendar full of events for its members.  From mastering mixed martial arts to stealing the spotlight on stage, there is something for everyone.

May is National Older Americans Month.  For a list of the other senior centers in counties across Utah, click here.
