The 12 Week Younger You Challenge

We asked five people to take a 12-week challenge of becoming fit and changing their everyday routine to live healthier. With the help of the team at Total Health and Fitness, we whipped them into shape with personalized exercise regimens and pre-planned meals. Total Health and Fitness was with them every step of the way, supporting them through the toughest workouts and biggest trials. Each week the contestants met up with the team to talk about progress and plan the next week. Troy was really excited about the contestant’s progress throughout the challenge. Check out their amazing results.

The Contestants

Dan Cannavo

Dan, a Southern California native and current Alpine resident, is tired of his normal routine. Dan has recently changed career paths to his dream job of selling real estate and investment properties. His wife, Zona and him have 5 children and they all love to travel.

Dan is doing the 12-week Younger You challenge because he is tired of feeling like he doesn't have enough energy during the day and believes that this challenge is the best way to change things. He hopes to change his eating habits and start exercising instead of sitting at a desk all day.

As Dan says, "No one can stop or control the aging process, but you can control your fitness levels." He wants to have the most energy, strength and excitement for life that he can.

Starting weight: 184 lbs (First weighed in 1/14/14)


Zona Cannavo

Zona currently lives in Alpine with her husband, Dan and one of their five children. Some of Zona's favorite things include travel, house boating and holiday dinners with her family.

Zona also loves to bake and makes some kind of dessert at least 4 times a week. She sees the Younger You challenge as an exciting way to make some drastic changes in her life, starting with eating healthier. She wants to be able to grow old with her husband and knows that a healthy lifestyle is the key to a long life.

Zona is very excited to start this challenge and wants others to be inspired by her. As she says, "Let other know if I can do this 'honestly' anyone can!

Mat Allred

Mat, an entrepreneur at heart, has been self-employed for the past 9 years, which can be stressful at times. Mat has a busy life with his wife, April and their 3 kids.

Mat has never put his physical health as a top priority but decided that now was the time to start. He decided to enter the 12-week Younger You challenge to push his body and to get into the best shape of his life.

Mat is excited to be working with all of the trainers at Total Health and Fitness to change the way he feels, eats, and exercises.

Starting weight: 238 lbs (First weighed in 1/10/14)


April Allred

April is a busy mother of 3 who has had to put exercise on the back burner lately. She has been athletic her whole life but has never been in top physical shape. She's hoping that this Younger You challenge can change that.

April really wants to push her body to the limit. She's never known the correct way to lift weights and is anxious to see how far she can go.

As April says, "I can't wait to see what it takes to be the best physical me? I'm scared and excited all at the same time!"

Matt Hemmert

Matt is a 40-year-old legal professional with a very demanding work schedule. He is married with 3 children and another one due in May.

Matt started his journey to better health in 2008 after his brother texted him a photo of himself at a family dinner. He couldn't believe how much weight he had gained during law school and during his career. The very next day he bought a treadmill. Through diet and exercise he was able to lose 40 pounds over the next four months.

He hopes that this challenge will teach him how to best utilize nutrition and exercise to meet his goals.

Starting weighed: 205 lbs
