Although visiting a fancy salon for beauty treatments is fun, there’s a lot you can do for your skin and hair right from the comfort of your own home. Open up your pantry and you’ll find everything you need for some pretty luxurious “me-time.” Here are some of my favorite beauty treatments for a lazy evening at home that use only one or two ingredients.
Strawberry Teeth Whitener
Brightening your smile can make you look 10 years younger! Mix one crushed strawberry with ½ teaspoon of baking soda, and that’s all you need. Use a toothbrush to apply the mixture to your teeth and spread it around. Let it set for 5 minutes, rinse it out, and follow up by brushing with your regular toothpaste. Repeat once a week and see it work wonders!
Honey Yogurt Mask
Honey is one of the most beneficial organic substances available. It has antibacterial properties, serves as a moisturizer, and smells great. Mixing equal parts honey and plain yogurt and applying it as a mask is a great way to refresh your face. Leave it on for about 10-15 minutes, then rinse it away with warm water. This will smooth away irritation, hydrate and moisturize, and can even treat mild acne.
Green Tea Eye Treatment
For dark circles or puffy bags under your eyes, a simple tea bag treatment is a quick solution. Any caffeinated tea will work, but I prefer green tea because of its antioxidant qualities. Boil the tea bags as usual, and then refrigerate them until they’re nice and cold. Place them under your eyes and relax for 15 minutes or so. The caffeine will shrink the blood vessels just under the skin, which instantly reduces puffiness and evens out skin tone. The cold temperature also helps to reduce inflammation.
Beer Hair Rinse
To add more shine, body, and strength to your hair, you only need one ingredient- a nice stout beer. Pull a beer out of your fridge and let it warm up to room temperature. Shampoo your hair like normal, but don’t condition. Pour the beer over your hair and let it set anywhere from 5 minutes to overnight. The longer you let it set, the better your results will be. Rinse with as cold of water as you can stand, and then style as usual. There are a couple of beneficial components to beer that are great for your hair. Protein in the form of Vitamin B found in hops and malt boost your body and repair damage. Maltose and sucrose sugars tighten the hair’s cuticle, which pumps up shine. Your hair might smell a little like beer at first, but that will wear off as it dries. Repeat every couple of weeks.
