Keanu Reeves starred in the action thriller John Wick: Chapter 2 that hit box offices on February 10. The film grossed a domestic total of $74.4m and $125.5m globally, which was a 46% increase from the first John Wick in just over two weeks of release.
John Wick is a story about a legendary hitman that can’t seem to make his way out of the hitman world. In the second movie, he is forced out of retirement by a former associate and up against some of the world’s deadliest killers.
Reeves heavily trained before filming the movie to make shots from the film as realistic as possible. From martial arts (jujutsu) to three-gun tactical shooting and driving tricks, he was ready to crank the intensity up a notch.
Despite the success throughout his career, there are sides to him that people don’t know. Who is the real John Wick off screen? Believe it or not, Reeves is more of a bad ass in real life than the fictional character he plays as John Wick.
BrightVibes made a video about Keanu Reeves that will melt your heart, as it did ours. In the video, it highlights major events in his life.
When Reeves was 3 years old, he watched his father leave. He attended 4 different high schools growing up and struggled with dyslexia, making his education more challenging than it is for most. At age 23, his closest friend River Phoenix died of a drug overdose. In 1998, he met Jennifer Syme and they fell instantly in love. By 1999, Jennifer was pregnant with their daughter. Sadly, after eight months, their child was born stillborn. They were devastated by her death and it eventually ended their relationship. 18 months later, Jennifer died in a car accident. Since then, he avoids serious relationships and having children.
As if the heartache in his life wasn’t enough, his younger sister had Leukemia. She is now cured. Reeves donated 70% of his gains from the movie Matrix to hospitals that treat Leukemia. He is one of the only Hollywood stars without a mansion. He doesn’t have bodyguards or wear fancy clothes. Even though he is worth $100 million, he still rides the subway and loves it.
In the end of the video, Reeves give his seat on the subway to a woman that was standing. It is clear that Reeves is a humble and kind man. He doesn’t care for fame or the Hollywood scene. He is extremely generous and does not value the temporal things in life. He has made the most of his unfortunate circumstances in life. He is a class act.
