Jason Nguyen joined ABC 4 Utah in January of 2014. Jason made the move to Utah from his hometown Cleveland, Ohio.
Jason spent the last three years in Cleveland covering some of the hardest news in his career.
One of Jason’s first stories was to cover the trial of convicted serial killer Anthony “the Cleveland Strangler” Sowell. Sowell kidnapped, raped and murdered eleven women.
He later covered the horrific school shootings at Chardon High School, where shooter TJ Lane shot and killed 3 of his classmates and injuring 2 others. Lane was convicted of three life sentences without parole.
Jason also got the chance to see three women freed from captivity. Michelle Knight, Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus were held captive by Ariel Castro for a decade. Castro was caught and pleaded guilty to his crimes. He later was found dead in a prison cell.
Before moving to Cleveland he worked at WINK-TV in Fort Myers, Florida as a Photojournalist. Jason was able to cover the Gulf Oil Spill, Florida wildfires and much more.
While in the Sunshine state he crafted his photography skills winning a Light Feature award with the Society of Professional Journalist. He has also been a runner up for awards with the Associated Press and B-Roll.net.
Prior to that he worked for WTVG-TV in Toledo, Ohio as Photographer/Editor.
Jason earned his bachelor's degree in Arts and Sciences with a focus on Broadcast Communications at the University of Toledo in 2006.
Jason loves the sunshine and you can find him most days out walking his dog Buddy. He’s a foodie at heart and loves to explore new restaurants. He is a Cleveland fan through and through but will root for Utah’s teams as long as they don’t play his Ohio teams.
