A relatively compact storm will arrive for the Beehive state Friday with light rain or mixed precipitation in the valleys, and some snow in the mountains. However, it's the weekend storm that will bring the lion's share of wet weather. Snow will be found on the valley floors throughout Saturday, with the heaviest during the afternoon and evening hours. During this time, snowfall rates can top 2"/hour in the mountains. While there will be some accumulation in the valley, there will be much less on roadways, but black ice can also be an issue Saturday night. Meanwhile, the far southern part of the state will likely only pick up gusty winds with the storm and little to no precipitation. Even if lake effect snow develops Saturday night and early Sunday morning, brighter skies will return later Sunday and for a good part of next week. Enjoy, and stay safe!
