Woman found dead in a Salt Lake hotel ruled a homicide

Police are investigating a homicide in downtown Salt Lake after a woman's body was found in a hotel room at the Royal Garden Inn.

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH (GOOD 4 UTAH) - Police are investigating a homicide in downtown Salt Lake City after a woman's body was found in a hotel room at the Royal Garden Inn. The woman has been identified as 34 year old Holly Nicole Carges. However, how the woman died has not been released by homicide detectives as of Friday afternoon.

The hotel manager tells Good 4 Utah another manager on duty actually discovered the body and that Carges was not a guest checked in at the hotel. Now some guests feel a little on edge.

“It's kind of scary, you wonder what's going on around here “said one hotel guest. Another guest says “I just saw a lot of police cars when we came to check in yesterday.”

Salt Lake PD started to investigate the homicide just after 9 a.m., but the media didn't learn about it from police until Thursday night. “A 34 year old female was found deceased in the hotel room it did not appear to be natural causes. AT that time they called homicide investigators to come out and investigate it, said Detective Veronica Montoya with Salt Lake Police Department.

Police say identifying Carges was a process, because she didn't have any identification on her- but based off her history they knew she had ties to Salt Lake City. “We were able to find some records showing that she was a resident of Salt Lake City,” said Montoya.

Police also say they have no reason to believe drugs or alcohol are a factor, but are not going into further details. “The details of what the mannerism in what she was found in, and all off those details are used in our investigation. They are also used if we did get a suspect so we don't like to put a lot of that out there,” said Detective Montoya.

How long Carges was in the hotel room is still unclear, but police say they don't believe it was over 24 hours.

This is an ongoing investigation. If anyone has information about Carges you are asked to call the Salt Lake Police Department at 801.799.300
