Woman dies while BASE jumping in Zion National Park

ZION NATIONAL PARK, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) -- A woman died Saturday afternoon during a BASE jumping accident in Zion National Park.
ZION NATIONAL PARK, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) -- A woman died Saturday afternoon during a BASE jumping accident in Zion National Park.

According to park spokeswoman Aly Baltrus a woman in her mid 30s was BASE jumping with a male companion of Mt. Kinesava near the towns of Rockville and Springdale when her parachute failed to open properly.

The jump was approximately 1,500 feet. Baltrus said the accident occurred at about 2:30 p.m. but the woman's companion was unable to hike all the way out until 6:30 p.m., when he notified the park.

More information on the accident is expected to be released tomorrow. The woman's identity was not released Saturday night.
