Any one with a camera could enter the “I am Downtown” contest, but had to capture what downtown means to them in less than 100 seconds.
Connor Rickman and Nicholas Dunn's video came out on top beating out the 16 other contestants.
“I'm still coming down from it, but I'm feeling really, really, really good,” said Rickman.
In the video, it's not difficult to see through their photography and editing that these guys know what they're doing, but it's the story line that stood out to many.
“It follows a warrior who is transported by a magical crystal into downtown Salt Lake,” said Rickman. “He discovers all the wonderful things downtown Salt Lake has to offer and at the end the crystal is gearing up to transport him again, but he decides that he likes it better here so he decides to stay downtown.”
Rickman and Dunn say they wanted to enter the contest because of their love of downtown.
“We both live near here, we spend all our time downtown, we want to work downtown,” said Dunn.
That's why they plan to spend their $5,000 award downtown too by starting their own production company, Ex Machina, in the heart of the city they love.
“I grew up in Salt Lake and the city I feel has kind of grown up with me,” said Rickman. “I’m really excited about the direction it's going.”
