Loved ones are grieving the death of 19 year old Anthony Hernandez.

"It hurts, it just tears your heart apart," said Linda Avila, mother.

Saturday night Hernandez was shot and killed near 3100 South 4300 West in West Valley City. Witnesses said Hernadez was leaving a party and walking down the street in a group. Suddenly people in a car and a truck pulled up alongside them, the two sides started arguing, then shots were fired.

"They rolled down the window and shot him 5 times," said Avila.

Emergency responders rushed Hernandez to a hospital, but police said he died a few hours later.

"Unfortunately shortly after 2 a.m. This morning he did pass away," said Sgt. Jason Hauer, West Valley City Police Dept.

Police believe the shooting is gang related. It's making people who live the neighborhood nervous.

"We don't feel safety we didn't sleep here last night and i don't know that we'll be sleeping at our house for a little while now," said one neighbor.

As for loved ones, memories of Hernandez is now all they have left.

"He was a good-going, real friendly (person), he had friends all over the place," said Avila.

As of Sunday night, police are still looking for the people who shot and killed Hernandez. They're described as Hispanic. They were driving a white vehicle with 4 doors, and a Silver Nissan Armada. If you recognize either of those cars, call police at 801-840-4000.
