WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) – A man accused of a home invasion Thursday has died from his injuries while the homeowner is under investigation for possible drug distribution.

Police said 29-year-old Robert Ebere died at a hospital Friday afternoon. Ebere and two other men were accused of storming into a home on Chula Drive early Thursday morning with guns. The homeowner, Javier Mendoza-Trujillo, put Ebere in a choke hold and rendered him unconscious.

Investigators said Ebere and the two other men, who later escaped, were at the house to carry out a drug rip. Investigators found a bag of zip ties and believe the men planned to bind the victims. There were three adults and five children inside the home.

Authorities said they served a search warrant and found nine pounds of cocaine and a large amount of cash inside. Several cars were also seized.

Mendoza-Trujillo may face federal drug distribution charges. Meanwhile, police are still searching for the two other men involved in the home invasion.

Anyone with information is asked to call West Valley City Police at 801-840-4000.
