West Jordan celebrates Independence Day with 60th annual celebration

Celebrations took place all over the state Friday, including the 60th Annual West Jordan Independence Day parade.

WEST JORDAN, Utah  (GOOD 4 Utah) - Celebrations took place all over the state Friday, including the 60th annual West Jordan Independence Day parade.

With an opening act of the national anthem parade goers cheered for the song that represents our nation's freedom. From tubas and drums by the Salt Lake Letter Carriers, to back flips and stunts by gymnasts and cheerleaders everyone had a favorite pass them by.

“This is tradition for us to come out to visit the parades and be here in West Jordan. This is one of the best parades,” said Torrey a West Jordan parade regular who was with his wife Natalie and their kids. “We love to watch for the awesome old fashion cars, we love to watch for the awesome veteran dance and the bag pipes!” said Natalie.

The couple tells Good 4 Utah they have been bringing their kids  to the West Jordan parade for years, they say they not only come to see the line up  and  spend time with family but to honor our nations freedom and those who serve our country.

“I absolutely love our nation I love everything about it. It’s so awesome to be free! To make the choices I want to make and not be told what I have to do,” said Natalie. The West Jordan faithfuls are not the only ones proud to be American. Bittani Bauer says the holiday hits close to home. “I have a lot of family in the military or has been so it's just really special for me,” said Bauer.

With 82 entries in the parade, the celebration is full of excitement and fun for all ages, but if you aren't in it for the floats as much as the goodies being thrown out, there was plenty for everyone.“We're here every year. We are faithful, just for the candy,” said one parade goer with his family.

The Western stampede rodeo continues Friday night with gates opening at 6 o’clock and again Saturday at the West Jordan Arena.
