SANDY, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Public utility crews worked fast to contain a water main break in Sandy Friday.

According to Sandy officials, the water pipe broke at 2093 East Gyrfalcon Lane (10050 South), forming a spout that shot 50 feet in the air.

Sandy officials say the spout also shot some debris, dirt, and gravel into the air, which fell and damaged the car.

Public utility officials said that the gravel also landed on a nearby house.

The spout also formed a hole in the street about 30 feet wide.

The water was shut off as crews worked to repair the line.

About 12 homes were without water during the afternoon.
