WEST HAVEN, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Homeowners in West Weber County are learning that when the flowers bloom the burglars often come out.

Weber County Sheriff’s Lt. Mark Lowther reports about 30 burglaries in the 3700 South 3750 West area of West Haven in the County Haven Neighborhood area. Lowther says the burglaries took place over the last 30 days.

The Weber County Sheriff’s Office released a statement, “We are currently seeing a high increase in vehicle burglaries thgoughout Western Weber County. Most of the vehicles have been left unlocked with valuables left in sight. It is important to remember to safeguard your homes and vehicles against possible break-ins as warmer weather approaches. Typically as the temperature rises, so do the number of reported property crimes.”

Deputies are asking citizens to lock doors, roll up car windows and shut garage doors.

Neighbors like Brittney Hale say neighbors are talking about the spike in crime, “A little nervous. Kind of freaked out, but we’ll do our best to avoid it.”

Mike Carlin says the suspects hitched a truck to his neighbor’s flatbed trailer and drove away. “That’s pretty brazen. I can’t believe people would actually go ahead and do something like that,” Carlin said.

Salt Lake City and Provo Police are reporting only slight increases in similar burglaries.
