Sgt. Matt Budd of the South Salt Lake Police Department said officers responded to the TRAX Central Pointe Station at about 6:30 a.m. on an anonymous report of people looking through parked vehicles. An officer found a vehicle matching the caller's description of the suspicious car. When the officer shined a spotlight on the driver, the vehicle fled.
Budd said the driver tried to cross the tracks and swerve around an oncoming S-Line streetcar, but the train clipped the car's rear and sent it spinning. The driver then fled on foot, leaving his female passenger behind.
Police said the woman complained of pain and was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The driver remained at large Saturday morning, Budd said.
