SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC 4 UTAH)- A tradition that goes back centuries sends a University of Utah student to the hospital. 20 year old Patrick Eccles was running with the bulls Friday in Pamplona, Spain and was gored. Eccles is one of three men injured during the running Friday and the only American injured.

The iconic running of the bulls in Pamplona, Spain came to a screeching halt at the University of Utah.

“It looks like he’s getting gored,” said Robin Perely.

The ‘he’ is Junior Ute Patrick Eccles.

“Do you know who that is? I know of him” said Ute Alex Little.

“I recognize that last name, yes,” said Dan Swink.

Even for those who don’t know Patrick, the thought of him being horned by a bull was alarming. A video released from Spain shows one of the other three men being attacked.

“Run of the bulls is an interesting tradition. I hope he's ok. I wouldn't have done it. I don't know that looks really painful,” said Heather Mahler.

“There is a big animal that's got it's horn in his belly in Patrick's belly,” said Perley.

People from all walks of life joined Patrick to be in Pamplona, Spain in the middle of all the action. It was a decision that put all of their lives in danger.

“Just someone trying to live his life and being an adrenaline junkie,” said Little.

“I’m thinking poor guy I hope he's got health insurance,” said Perley.

ABC 4 Utah is still working to get more information about Eccles and his current condition.
