According to the UHP, Sergeant Cade Brenchley reported for duty at 7:52 a.m. and was immediately dispatched to Interstate 80 milepost 24 on a report of a woman in labor with twins.
The woman was reportedly 36 weeks along, and by the time Brenchley arrived on scene, the first baby (boy) had bee delivered by the father who had also been traveling in same vehicle.
Sgt. Brenchley found baby #1 wrapped in a towel and was breathing well, but the mother was experiencing severe labor pains and had not yet delivered baby #2.
The UHP says Sgt. Brenchley retrieved his medical bag and returned, and by 8:11.am., baby #2 (a girl) arrived, with the help of the trooper.
After making sure the baby's airway was clear, and otherwise okay. Baby #2 was then wrapped in a towel and blankets, according to the UHP.
Ambulances arrived approximately 10 minutes later, and transported the mother and babies to a location where they met a Life-flight helicopter at milepost 41.
The UHP says Life Flight took the two babies to a Salt Lake hospital and the mother was transported to the hospital by ground ambulance.
The UHP says both babies were doing very well upon leaving for the hospital, as was the mother.
The mother and father's identity was withheld.
