The 2nd Annual Great Utah Shakeout

Salt Lake City, UT (ABC4 News) - For the second year in a row, Utah’s largest earthquake drill is ready to shake things up.
Salt Lake City, UT (ABC4 News) - For the second year in a row, Utah’s largest earthquake drill is ready to shake things up.

The Great Utah ShakeOut is happening today, April 17.

The event includes participating homes, businesses, schools and other public spaces throughout the state at 10:15a.m.

Last year, over 900,000 individuals participated.

It's sponsored by Daily Bread for the second year, and is meant to educate Utahns on how best to react during and after a substantial earthquake.

The inevitable and substantial quakes predicted for the region means all citizens need to know what to do when recovery begins. The Wasatch Fault has a major earthquake about every 350 years, with the last quake being just over 350 years ago.

For those participating on April 17 at 10:15 a.m. MDT, they will need to do a ‘drop, cover and hold-on’ during the drill for one minute. Then, when the “shaking” stops, review their emergency plan, emergency kits and supplies and conduct a home hazard hunt.
