Talking Pictures: Hercules, Lucy, and more!

Tony Toscano talks about the new films hitting theaters this weekend.
Hercules

Having endured his legendary twelve labors, Hercules, the Greek demigod, has his life as a sword-for-hire tested when the King of Thrace and his daughter seek his aid in defeating a tyrannical warlord. Dwayne Johnson stars as Hercules in an above average sword and muscles story. The film is paced well and there's a lot of action. Is it an epic? No... but you know that going in.

It gets a C+ and is rated PG-13.

Lucy

A woman is transformed into a merciless warrior with mental capacities evolved beyond human logic. Scarlett Johansson stars as Lucy in this dark sci-fi film from Luc Besson. I liked "Lucy" because of it's unique approach to a tired sci-fi genre. Johansson, who has played the femme fatale a few times, offers up a fine performance as the reluctant warrior.

The film deserves a look this weekend - it gets a B and is rated R.

Wish I Was Here

Wish I Was Here' is the story of Aidan Bloom, a struggling actor, father and husband, who at 35 is still trying to find his identity; a purpose for his life. He winds up trying to home school his two children when his father can no longer afford to pay for private education and the only available public school is on its last legs. Through teaching them about life his way, Aidan gradually discovers some of the parts of himself he couldn't find.

It gets an A and is rated R.
