The student was skipping class and playing basketball. Administrators at the school say this isn't the first time they have had to deal with this student.
Students at the school say the fight began in the gym over a hat.
"The hat was part of that. It is gang paraphernalia. They are not allowed on school campus. The hat was removed," said Ben Horsley of the Granite School District.
Administrators say the student began to verbally assault a district’s police officer. The cop wanted to bring him into the school’s main office.
"After multiple directives he failed to comply. Then it became a physical altercation and a Taser was deployed," said Horsley.
Witnesses in the school say the boy attempted to take the veteran officer’s Taser.
"This unfortunately is not the first altercation he has had with either police or school administration," Horsley added. "He is facing some significant administrative discipline and criminal charges."
The student will be charged with resisting arrest and attempting to take the officer’s weapon. He could also face expulsion from Granger High School
"Clearly being tased is not a comfortable situation. But was necessary, it appears to be quite necessary in this particular situation. But, he has been checked out by paramedics and has been cleared," said Horsley.
The student will be in violation of the safe school act. He has been removed from campus until a committee can review this situation.
