Lockhart confirmed the moved Friday afternoon with a statement on her Facebook page.
The post reads:
As I reach the end of my Legislative service, I have spent many hours pondering the possibilities and opportunities for me to continue to serve Utah and her residents. I have officially applied for the position of State Superintendent of Public Instruction.
I respect the State School Board and their absolute Constitutional authority to make the decision as to who will help them lead public education into the future. I trust that my application, along with all the others submitted will be considered on its unique merits and evaluated with the goal of moving forward in a new and positive way.
