SANDY, Utah (ABC4 News) – The Festival of Trees is home to over 700 decorated trees, but one has a story that touched the hearts of many.

Sierra Newbold was kidnapped and murdered in June 2012. To honor her memory, a tree adorned with pink and white ornaments stands at the event. It’s called “Remembering Sierra.”

The pink tree is fit for the tiny dancer, surrounded by all things ballet. The display includes tickets to the New York City Ballet of Sleeping Beauty with airfare and accommodations.

The tree is also surrounded by many of the six-year-old’s favorite things, including ballet shoes, books, teddy bears and a jewelry box.

The proceeds for Sierra’s tree and all trees will benefit Primary Children’s Medical Center.

The event is in its 42nd year of the tradition.

Irene Kennedy, with Utah Dance Artists, the school where Sierra took dance classes, said Sierra would have loved the tree. Kennedy said the girl loved Christmas and her parents loved the memorial to their daughter.
