Salt Lake Police believe they can solve 12-year-old cold case with new information and an arrest

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 Utah) – The disappearance and murder of Aletha Jo Williams has riddled Salt Lake Police for years.

Thursday police arrested Ricky Vincent after countless hours of investigation.

“Our homicide investigators have been working relentlessly on this investigation,” said Det. Cody Lougy with Salt Lake Police Department.

In two months police have re-opened the case, searched the Jordan River and talked to 25 people with creditable information.

“We still have evidence being processed at several forensics labs so this case continues to build,” said Lougy.

The case that police say 48-year-old Vincent has information about.

ABC 4 Utah’S Jason Nguyen asked Vincent “Why do they say you know the person of interest?” “Well he's my brother,” said Vincent.

ABC 4 is not releasing the name of the person of interest at this time. Police declined to comment if the bother is the person they are after.

“All I can tell you is, you are going to have to take his statement at face value. Those are some details we are not releasing. We just don't want to impede the investigation,” said Lougy.

“They think I know stuff, so they are putting me under arrest,” said Vincent.

Ricky Vincent was arrested for Obstruction of Justice.

On Monday police searched a home in West Jordan.

“Crime scene investigation van out front of their house and a cop as well,” said the neighbor.

But cops were too early, the person of interest showed up the next day around noon.

“I saw him Tuesday, going to his van to his house. I didn't talk to him,” she said.

According to this police statement police say they “have firsthand knowledge that the suspect in the murder investigation told the [arrested person] details about the death of a female.”

Police are on the hunt for this person of interest and say they know where he is and it’s only a matter of time before they bring him to answer questions about Aletha Williams.
