District Attorney Sim Gill made the announcement Tuesday.
He says in the last four years, he has been able to increase public trust in his office and despite rumors he may have been vying for the attorney general's position - there's still too much work left to be done right where he's at.
”I really strongly believe in the work that we've done, have a lot of work to do involved in some very important issues and I want to see them through and I want to finish things out another four years to position the DAs office for the next 20 years,” said Gill.
Gil went on to say his office's job is one of accountability and that nobody is above the law.
He has overseen high profile investigations of the West Valley City Police Department and former Utah Attorneys General John Swallow and Mark Shurtleff.
Republican Steve Nelson has filed to run against Gill.
