Crews spent Saturday morning mopping up hot spots, but expected all hot spots to be put down by noon Saturday.

PROVO, Utah (ABC 4 News) – Teenagers are responsible for a wildfire that sparked Friday afternoon near Rock Canyon Park and spanned across approximately 50 acres.

Provo Fire Marshal Lynn Schofield said two teenage boys were playing with aerial fireworks. He noted fireworks are illegal on and near the mountain.

Schofield described the fireworks the teens were using as “stronger versions” of bottle rockets.

The teenagers were interview and released to their parents. The boys will likely face penalties, including the resources exhausted to fight the flames.

The Provo fire department, Utah County fire department and the National Forest Service responded to the blaze. More than 50 firefighters, two helicopters and one plane was called in for support.

As of Friday evening, the fire was nearly contained. Crews were watching hot spots throughout the night.

No evacuations were ordered. Full containment is expected by Saturday.
