SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 Utah) - About 7,000 runners, joggers and bikers will hit the streets bright and early Saturday morning. The annual Salt Lake City Marathon kicks off in just hours.

From here they'll head north and west through federal heights and the Avenues before heading south to Sugarhouse Park and down to Holladay before returning north via Highland Drive and 6th east through Liberty Park and finally finishing downtown at Library Square.

Organizers say the changes were made by new owner life time fitness in response to feedback from runners who wanted this to be a more urban, city-based race.

“It's gonna hit all the iconic parts of Salt Lake City that we all kinda like to be prideful about, that makes our city so great. We're gonna hit 11th Avenue, come down Memory Grove, see the Temple, some of the the marathoners will go to Sugar House Park. Everybody will go through Liberty Park and we're all gonna end at Library Square, Washington and the City County building,”

The Salt Lake City Police Department says you should be aware of these road closures: 2nd East between Library and Washington squares will be blocked off from midnight tonight until 6 p.m. Saturday. 5th South between 300 Cast and State Street is closed from 3 a.m. until 3 p.m. with 10 more street closures planned at various time throughout the morning.

Online registration is now closed, so the only way left to sign up is to get down to the quality of life expo at Energy Solutions Arena by 8 p.m. and register in person.
