Relay for Life events begin across Utah

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 Utah) - Relay for Life events aimed at knocking out cancer begin across our state this weekend.

Relay For Life is the world's largest grassroots fundraising movement and mobilizes communities throughout the country to celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and provide participants with an opportunity to fight back against the disease.

Relay For Life events are held overnight as individuals and teams camp out at an athletic track, park or other gathering area, with the goal of keeping at least one team member on the track or pathway at all times throughout the evening. Teams do most of their fundraising prior to the event, but some teams also hold creative fundraisers during Relay.

Funds raised at Relay For Life enable the American Cancer Society to impact the lives of those touched by cancer across the state of Utah and beyond by offering a number of free programs and services available to cancer patients and their families such as Patient Lodging, Look Good Feel Better, Patient Navigators and Road to Recovery.

These events are scheduled for the weekend of June 20-22, 2014:

Relay For Life of South Valley
Relay For Life of Rock Springs, Wyoming
Relay For Life of Nebo (covers the areas of Spanish Fork, Salem and Payson)
Relay For Life of Roy
Relay For Life of Ogden/Weber County
