The grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Justice's Office on Violence Against Women will be spread out over three years. It aims to improve the skills of victim advocates, law enforcement officers, judges and other community members who work with victims.
The grant announced this week comes after Provo Police Chief Rick Gregory helped establish the Elder Abuse and Vulnerable Adult Coalition in January. The task force addresses issues including neglect, physical and emotional abuse of seniors, and financial crimes.
Gregory says seniors can be uniquely vulnerable to crime, and says the grant recognizes the city's leadership in addressing the problem.
