SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) - Salt Lake City Police shot a man after he tried to attack them possibly with a knife.  Police say they were called out late Friday night on a report of a man experiencing a mental health crisis and was threatening to burn down his home.

When officers arrived, the man refused to come outside.  They smelled natural gas and entered the house to protect the man and his neighbors from any danger.

After they went inside, the man lunged at officers with what appeared to be a knife and police fired once, hitting the man.  He was taken to a local hospital and is expected to survive.

The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of a review of the incident.
