SPANISH FORK, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) - As of Thursday evening, police aren't saying much about the suspect who shot and killed one Utah County Sheriff's Deputy and injured another, but they are releasing select details.

"At this point in time we need to confirm who we have and make sure that we're not wrong in identifying our suspect and his criminal history," said Jim Tracy, Utah County Sheriff.

Utah County Sheriff Jim Tracy does report the suspect has a "significant criminal history." He calls his actions "evil," and detectives served a search warrant at his home.

"To put some of this information out might jeopardize our second investigations into the suspect's home location on that search warrant," said Tracy.

After Juab County Deputies had a shootout with the suspect they said he was critically wounded. Before he was captured investigators with the Utah Highway Patrol believe people in Nephi may have met the suspect, and they need those people to call police.

"We are currently looking for any witnesses and or anyone that was involved with this incident in Juab County," said a Trooper with the Utah Highway Patrol.

"If anyone knows or was approached by this individual which was part of that incident, we really need to hear from you," said Tracy.

Police understand they're not giving people of of information to go off of, but if you live in Nephi and the suspect tried to steal your car you probably know who he is. Police want you to call 801-887-3800.
