Police: Man who caused fatal six-car chain reaction crash faces charges

DRAPER, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) - Charges have been filed against the driver that hit and killed a woman last night and sent several others to the hospital Thursday evening.
DRAPER, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) - Charges have been filed against the driver that hit and killed a woman last night and sent several others to the hospital Thursday evening.

The accident happened around 6:30 p.m. Thursday on Lone Peak Parkway and 123rd South.

Police say Bill Thompson, 44, was driving a white pick-up travelling north on Lone Peak Parkway entered the intersection of 12300 South against a red light. Vehicles travelling east/west on 12300 South were struck by the the truck. 

This caused a chain reaction crash that involved six other vehicles. 

A 43-year-old woman died at the scene. A under-age passenger in the same vehicle was critically injured and taking to the hospital. Four other people involved in the crash were also taken to the hospital with minor injuries. 

Thompson was also taken to the hospital for injuries he sustained in the crash. 

Police say Thompson will be booked into jail for suspicion of vehicular homicide and driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving and various other charges.
