Pipe bomb found at a Layton elementary school

Layton, Utah(ABC 4 News)- Mountain View Elementary school evacuated after a worker found a pipe bomb on the roof.
Layton, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Mountain View Elementary school was evacuated after a maintenance worker found a pipe bomb on the roof around 11:30 Monday afternoon.

Children were evacuated from the school to a nearby LDS church. The Davis County Bomb Squad was called in to handle the device. They confirmed it was a functioning pipe bomb that had never exploded. They are not sure how long it had been on the roof.

Parents were able to pick up their children at the LDS Church at 2400 east and 3100 North in Layton. Those parents we spoke with were pleased with how smoothly the evacuation and pick up process went.

Staff was allowed back into the school around 3:15 p.m. after bomb dogs searched the perimeter and interior of the school and found it to be safe.

School is scheduled to resume Tuesday.
