Olive Osmond Hearing Fund gives children the gift of sound

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 Utah) - When you think of the Osmond family, your first thought probably has something to do with singing or music. But for at least one of the Osmonds, he struggles to hear his family's famous sound, and he's helping other children who were born deaf just like him.
SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 Utah) - When you think of the Osmond family, your first thought probably has something to do with singing or music. But for at least one of the Osmonds, he struggles to hear his family's famous sound, and he's helping other children who were born deaf just like him.

The gift of sound is something Justin Osmond of the Osmond family knows all too well.

"I had the big jumbo hearing aids with wires coming out of my ears and a big box on my belt," said Justin Osmond, CEO & Founder of Olive Osmond Hearing Fund.

Osmond was born 90 to 95 % deaf. While his father, aunt, and uncles became famous for their sound, Justin Osmond couldn't hear them.

"My dad, the lead singer of the Osmonds, and I remember going to a show and not be able to hear and understand my own dad," said Osmond.

It's one reason why he's trying to help other deaf children just like him. Osmond is the CEO and Founder of the Olive Osmond Hearing Fund. He said its goal is to create deaf awareness and give hearing aids to children who are otherwise unable to hear the sounds around them.

"It's so rewarding when you see these kids light up like a Christmas tree or the light switch comes on and they can hear for the first time," he said.

Osmond said the Hearing Fund gives these children hope. Regardless how much they might struggle, just like him, they can listen to the moments when they learn to overcome.

"I still have a hard time understanding the radio or the TV but its okay. I have a personal motto, I may have hearing loss but that hearing loss does not have me," said Osmond.

If you'd like to support Justin Osmond and the Olive Osmond Hearing Fund, you'll want to check out the Youth Pioneer Production coming up at the Utah Pioneer Days in West Jordan. It's playing every night on July 24th, 25th and 26th. All the proceeds go to raise money to buy top of the line hearing aids for 10 Salt Lake area families.
