SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC 4 News) - A Willard Police officer shot and killed 49-year-old Cody J. Ramseyer Friday night near northbound I-15 just south of exit 357.

A Utah Department of Public Safety news release reports Ramseyer was driving his maroon GMC Denali recklessly in Davis County. Four area agencies followed his vehicle, but failed to stop Ramseyer because he was traveling at speeds of about 100-miles-per-hour.

He led police on northbound I-15 through Davis County, Weber County and Box Elder County where he crashed south of exit 357.

Police surrounded Ramseyer. The news release reports he failed to follow orders and "aggressively approached officers in a threatening manner. Officers from UHP and Pleasant View PD deployed tasers. Mr. Ramseyer, who continued to act in an aggressive and threatening manner, was eventually shot by a Willard Police Department officer."

He was rushed to a hospital in Brigham City and flown to McKay Dee Hospital where he died.

Officers are investigating why he crashed and why he failed to pull over.

The shooting shutdown southbound I-15 for a short time and northbound I-15 for five hours.

The chase began Friday at 10:15 p.m. and ended about 15-minutes-later.
