DUGWAY, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) -- A new 1,200-acre fire has flared up Wednesday south of the Dugway Proving Ground in Tooele County.

Just days after the 5,000-acre Rough Haul Fire was contained in the same area, a new fire, known as the Pony Fire, has flared up near Simpson Mountain in Tooele County.

According to Paula Thomas, the spokeswoman for the U.S. Army base in Dugway, the fire ignited on the southern border outside of the base at about 10 a.m. The fire is actively burning and spreading quickly.

The Bureau of Land Management has called in assistance from five engines, two single engine air tankers and four firefighting crews. Additional resources also have been ordered. As of 2 p.m., the fire had grown to about 1,200 acres, the BLM said.

ABC 4 Utah will update this developing story as more details are available.
