It all happened near 900 East and 400 North.
The young female cougar was spotted and eventually shot with a tranquilizer dart.
The cat jumped over a fence into Karen Jeff's yard and then sprung over another fence before getting groggy and laying down under a spruce tree.
Nobody was injured although neighbors tell me that a pet cat is missing and may have been eaten by the cougar.
Officers from the Division of Wildlife Resources were able to remove the cougar in a cage and take it away for treatment, but it never woke up and died this afternoon.
“It makes me kind of sad because the last time I saw it, it was moving around and just from its motion jumping the fence and running across here, I would have said it was a very healthy cougar,” said Jeffs.
“Any time you have a cougar come into town typically there's probably something wrong with that cougar and unfortunately this cougar passed away so we're going to be checking in to why it couldn't endure the tranquilizer,” said Scott Root, with Utah Division of Wildlife Resources.
The cougar's body is being sent to a lab for a necropsy. Root says it will be about a week before those results come back.
