Cutting carbohydrates completely out of your diet is pretty much impossible, and would be a very unhealthy decision anyway. Carbohydrates are the main source of energy for our bodies, and we need them present to even perform regular daily tasks. The trick is that not all carbs are created equal. There’s a difference between refined and unrefined carbs, and cutting out refined carbs from your diet can improve your health in all areas, and promote weight loss.
Whole wheat breads and pastas, oatmeal, wild rice, and quinoa are just a few whole grain options that can boost your weight loss. They contain vitamins and nutrients your body needs to operate at top efficiency. They are also high in fiber, which leaves you feeling full longer, and stabilizes blood sugar levels. Whole grains reduce your risk of heart disease, lower cholesterol, and are low in fat.
Sweet potatoes, carrots, and other starchy vegetables are also high in fiber, and contain those good carbohydrates that we need to lose weight the healthy way. They are also rich in antioxidants, which flush all the bad stuff out of our systems, and make way for the good stuff. Fruit is also full of fiber and antioxidants, but should be eaten in moderation since it contains a lot of natural sugar.
What to Avoid
Refined sugars contained in white bread and pasta, pastries, white rice, candy, and soda are the carbs you should avoid. They convert quickly to fat in our bodies, and don’t offer much by way of nutritional value. Get your carbs from a healthy source instead, and you’ll have plenty of energy to get through your workout and drop those pounds.
