March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month, Have You Had a Colonoscopy?

Colon cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States. Yet, it is 80 percent preventable when detected early.
Dr. R. Kyle Barnett from Granite Peaks Gastroenterology talks about March being Colon Cancer Awareness Month.

Colon cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States, yet it is 80 percent preventable when detected early.

The best way to protect yourself, says Dr. Barnett, is to get a colonoscopy.  It is recommended for people over 50 years old, and earlier if you have a family history.

Colon cancer often has no symptoms until it is at an advanced stage, but regular screenings can find problems before it reaches that point.

Granite Peaks also offers other services such as hemorrhoid banding.  In fact it is the first clinic in Utah to offer this service.

Granite Peaks has multiple locations, as well as a state-of-the-art Endoscopy Center that uses the latest technology.

Appointments are available four days a week.  To make an appointment, call (801) 619-9000 or visit: www.UtahColon.com.
