Local Potters to Sell Bowls to Feed the Hungry

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 Utah ) - At Empty Bowls Utah, the sale of a single bowl can provide 8 1/2 meals for people in need.

On Saturday, May 3rd from noon to 4:00 p.m., local potters will hold a sale to benefit Catholic Community Services.

People can come by, buy hand-made bowls for $15 each, enjoy some great soup and live music, and take home their bowls as a reminder of the good they've done for our community. The money raised with stay with the St. Vincent de Paul Dining Hall, where the event is held..

Empty bowls is a nationwide, grassroots effort, organized by artist groups to help feed the hungry in their local communities. Empty Bowls Utah is an annual event organized by Clay Arts, Utah, a local non-profit. Clay Arts, Utah artists make the bowls and donate them to the event. Catholic Community Services of Utah is the co-sponsor of the event, and provides the soup that will be served that day.

There will be 700 bowls for sale, each one for $15. There will also be pottery-throwing demonstrations and face-painting for the kids. And, gift-wrapping is available (because Mother's Day is the next weekend).
