Kim Johnson - Tapering week for the Top of Utah Marathon

The Top of Utah Marathon is just days away and it’s my turn to run! After standing on the sidelines emceeing several races I can’t wait to lace up my running shoes and pound the pavement.

It will be my first Top of Utah marathon and I’ve been told I picked a really beautiful race. The course starts at Hardware Ranch Wildlife Management Area, and travels down Blacksmith Fork Canyon and on into downtown Logan. I haven’t done much exploring of this area since I moved here last summer so I’m looking forward to soaking it all in on my own two feet. Plus, the fall colors will be fantastic!

I was a little concerned about the first 14 miles being all downhill. I ran a half marathon this spring in Big Cottonwood Canyon and I was sore for a week. That was just a half too! But, the nice thing about Top of Utah marathon is the course drops approximately 1045 feet over the 26 miles but is only a 1% to 2% grade so it won't beat up my legs.

This week I’ve had to limit myself to 2-3 miles a day to rest up. It’s been tough. I need my miles! But I’m looking forward to Friday night… carbo loading!

It will be a nice intimate race. Only 2,500 runners. Hoping to make new friends and create more awesome memories here in Utah. See you at the finish!
