Cheers, smiles and waving flags welcomed back the bus full of veterans.
"Our grandma went on the Honor Flight she served in World War II, so we're waiting for her to get back and surprise her."
Frances Allen, 95, is one of 25 World War II veterans and two Korean War veterans who took the Honor Flight to the nation's capital.
"It was awesome isn't a good enough word. It was absolutely unbelievable,” said Allen.
“You know, I didn't consider myself any body's hero I was a little embarrassed at first.”
She said the moment that touched her the most was seeing the monument that honored her personal sacrifice.
"When we saw the World War II memorial, a lot of us cried... It's amazing," said Allen.
It’s now a moment she will cherish forever.
Applications are now being accepted for the next Honor Flight. It takes off in September.
