SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Harmons pastry chef Adalberto Diaz Labrada was selected as one of the finalists to compete in Orlando for $5,000 as well as the title of "pastry chef of the year."

Chefs were nominated by colleagues because of their creativity, talent and passion.

When the chefs competed for their state titles and then went on to compete for their regional titles, Diaz won best in state as well as the title for the western region.

The best chef in each region will compete in Orlando Sunday and will have two and-a-half hours to create one hot dessert, one cold dessert and one two foot tall chocolate and sugar sculpture representing Hollywood.

Each of the plated desserts consists of 10 to 12 items. Diaz chose to create his dessert after the movie Avatar and will include tropical as well as industrial looking components.

Harmons grocery store sells many of Diaz' creations.
