The House approved House Bill 1001 by a vote of sixty-seven to six. The Senate approved it in a unanimous, twenty-eight to zero vote.
The bill amends state law to give the committee certain powers in its search for answers. It gives the committee authority to hold closed meetings if it sees fit, gives the committee broader subpoena power and sets up rules for offering potential witnesses immunity.
After the session, Speaker of the House, Becky Lockhart unveiled the nine person committee. It consists of five republicans and four democrats, chaired by Representative Lowry Snow.
