Get Your Garden Ready for Spring

Millcreek Gardens can help you with everything you need to get your garden ready for spring.
LaRene Bautner from Millcreek Gardens shows us things you can do this weekend to get your garden ready for spring.  She demonstrated some of the key things on GTU Thursday.

First, it is time to prune your rose bushes.  LaRene suggests to use sharp, good pruning tools.  You can find all shapes and sizes at Millcreek Gardens.  She says to clip the dead branches away, along with branches that are going in different directions from the others.  Also, clip any branches that cross another branch.  The best height for rose bushes is 15-24 inches tall.

For trees, LaRene suggests to take a look at your tree first, before you start chopping away, to decide what you want to stay and what you want to go.  Remember, never trim more than 30 percent of your tree away.

It is also a great time to start planting... and that includes pansies.  Don't forget to use "Blood Meal" fertilizer to help them bloom.  This will also make your blooms bigger.

Millcreek Gardens is located at 3500 South 900 East in Salt Lake City.  (801) 487-4131
